Blank Check Paper
As computer chip and pin technology becomes more prominent
blank check paper makers are seeing a decline in the use of checks.
The largest British check manufacturer, Tullis Russell, expects to see
a year-to-year decrease in production of checks at around 5%. In order
to survive the changing market conditions, the company is utilizing
new technologies to stay relevant.
Interestingly, as chip and pin technology sees more use for payments
it is predicted that there will be an increase in check fraud because
chip and pin technology is so hard to defraud. Therefore, companies
that manufacture blank check paper have an opportunity to turn their
papers into a niche product if they can improve its technology.
Tullis Russell has created a product called Fibrelock to protect blank
check paper. It utilizes ultraviolet and infrared visible fibers which
are distributed over the paper. This makes it easy to scan and verify
checks should increase market share even as chip and pin technology
sees increased use.
