Check Security Paper
As more payments are being made electronically, less and
less check security paper is being purchased. In order to combat the
competition, makers of check paper are producing new technologies. These
new high-tech security papers are catching banks' interest.
Makers of check security paper are also trying to increase business
by going green. While it is difficult to include recycled content in
checks because of stringent banking standards, there is one UK bank
that does so. In addition, as technology improves and forest tree resources
grow scarcer, banks may be more willing to integrate recycled paper
into checks.
Some banks still frown on check security paper that has recycled content.
However, other banks such as the Royal Bank still try to court customers
with their green attitude. The Royal Bank reported that in 2004 they
used approximately 40,000,000 recycled envelopes to mail out customer
statements.
